Stainless Steel Microwave Oven – My Personal Review Of The Panasonic Prestige NN-SD997S

Panasonic Stainless Steel Microwave

Panasonic Prestige NN-SD997S

I have been cooking with microwave ovens for close to 30 years and absolutely love them (particularly the newer stainless steel microwave ovens) so after seeing some new models on HGTV I decided to do a little research to see what might be a good replacement for my old Amana.

Like I said before, I particularly like the stainless steel microwave ovens (as well as other stainless steel appliances) because of the clean look and their ability to match any kitchen décor so I started my quest looking for the perfect stainless steel microwave that was not only a workhorse but reasonably priced as well.

I finally found the “sweet spot” in the stainless steel microwave oven market in the Panasonic Prestige line (there really is no comparison to other models I checked) and as I already own a number of Panasonic products (most recently a new HDTV and Blu-ray Home Theater which I love) I am very comfortable in recommending this oven to you.

What To Look For When Buying A Stainless Steel Microwave

Even though the stainless steel microwave oven has come a long way over the years there are still three key points you want to keep in mind when buying one:

  • Size
  • Watts
  • Control Panel

If you buy a stainless steel microwave based on price alone and you plan on using it regularly in your cooking you will probably be disappointed so stick with me and learn why these three key points are so important.

Size Matters

You can buy stainless steel microwave ovens as small as .5 cubic feet but they are only good for warming up a cup of coffee or small bowl of soup or chili and are not really practical for serious cooking and reheating.

Thankfully, the Panasonic Prestige stainless steel microwave has a whopping 2.2 cubic feet of space which is more than enough to handle large dishes, even casseroles!

What’s Watt?

Generally speaking the more watts a microwave has the faster and more evenly the food cooks. Smaller, cheaper microwaves are typically 700 watts or less but the Panasonic microwave has a mighty 1250 watts of cooking power.

Mission Control Panel

Long gone are the days of the minute countdown timer that you turned to start your microwave. Modern ovens feature control panels that look like they belong on the space shuttle and the Panasonic Microwave Oven is no different.

Yes, at first glance it can look a bit intimidating but after a quick read through the easy to follow quick start guide you will be happily cooking in a few minutes. Of course, there is also a more in-depth guide that explains every feature this fantastic microwave has to offer.

Cool Features Of The Panasonic Stainless Steel Microwave

  • Panasonic uses a unique Inverter Technology that delivers consistent power so foods look and taste like you expect. No more overcooking on edges and surfaces resulting in excellent food texture, color and delicious flavor even with delicate foods.
  • Turbo Defrost uses an advanced microwave sequencing system to defrost foods faster than previous models.
  • Food can be kept at a constant heat level without overcooking thanks to the five item keep-warm menu that delivers pulses of very low microwave power so foods are ready to eat when you are.

What Other Users Are Saying

Currently this particular stainless steel microwave enjoys a 4.4 out of 5 start rating on Amazon so you can feel good knowing you are getting a top-notch product. Here’s just a few comments from recent buyers…

“I’m still in LOVE with this microwave!!!”

“Powerful, luxurious, and exceptional stainless steel microwave!”

“A Microwave Oven for the 21st Century”

“Great product”

“Best stainless steel microwave ever”

Good To Know

Many people have said that they have received an oven with a ding in the door but this is actually supposed to be there to allow the door to open smoothly and is not a defect. When you get your oven you will see the small indentation in the upper-left corner of the door.

Also, a few people have said that it took them some time to get used to a dial instead of a numeric keypad but after a few uses they were happy with it.

Where Can You Order The Panasonic Prestige Stainless Steel Microwave Oven?

My friends and family know when it comes to buying stuff like a stainless steel microwave I am very particular, especially when making an online purchase.

I love to research products and spend the time to do a good job because I want the best product I can find for the money I am willing to spend so it should come as no surprise when I tell you that I am a huge fan of Amazon and have been for many years.

They are usually lower in price than anyone else, they have free shipping on orders over $25 and they have a great no-hassle return policy which I think I used exactly once in 10 years.

The main reason I buy stuff from Amazon (even on the rare occasion when it is a couple of dollars more) is because I can trust them to send my merchandise and not rip me off.

Side Note: Once I bought a top-of-the line Universal remote control from a site I had never heard of because they had a good price. After placing the order I read on another site about problems people had with this company and I have to tell you I was nervous for about 10 days before the remote arrived. Thankfully everything was fine but I make it a point to avoid that kind of stress now.

I like to explain it like this…

Who would you trust more with your credit card information, “Billy Bob’s Stainless Steel Microwave Emporium And Carpet Cleaning Service” or Amazon? Makes sense doesn’t it?
